Police in south London seized approximately £4 million in cash and one kilogram of Class A cocaine after stopping a suspicious vehicle in Catford on Wednesday evening.
Officers detained a 54‑year‑old driver on suspicion of possessing criminal property and discovered a shopping bag containing £35,000 during the initial search.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s residence uncovered additional cash concealed in multiple bags across two bedrooms, totaling around £4 million, along with the kilogram of cocaine.
Commander Paul Brogden described the seizure as one of the largest cash recoveries in recent years and highlighted the role of proactive local policing in combating serious and organised crime.
The commander emphasized that stop‑and‑search operations, including vehicle checks, remain vital tools for identifying criminal activity and praised the persistence and dedication of the officers involved.
