Philguarantee‑Backed Agricultural Loans Surge 43% in First Half

A Philippine state‑run guarantee agency reported a 42.96% increase in agricultural loans covered by its guarantee fund during the first half of the year.

Year‑to‑date, total guaranteed loans reached 3.34 billion pesos by June, compared to 2.34 billion pesos a year earlier.

Guarantees for commercial, thrift, and rural bank loans climbed 50.63% to 3.09 billion pesos.

Cooperative loans receiving guarantees grew 23.83% to 176.99 million pesos.

The number of enrolled transactions rose 22.52% to 36,821 accounts, assisting 31,737 small farmers and fisherfolk, a 16.6% increase over the previous period.

Outstanding guaranteed loans totaled 2.28 billion pesos at the end of June, up 48.12% and covering 22,148 accounts.

The agency expanded its network of partner lending institutions to 101, up from 91, largely through the accreditation of additional cooperatives.

Officials emphasized the agency’s commitment to encouraging private and public banks to extend credit to the agricultural sector by providing robust risk‑mitigating guarantees that support rural development and food security.
