The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has provided the Baguio City government with a significant grant to strengthen community-based drug prevention and rehabilitation efforts.
The P5 million grant, turned over during a recent flag raising ceremony at the Baguio City Hall, will be used to enhance and rehabilitate a local multipurpose facility that will be converted into a community development center.
The center is expected to support programs aimed at preventing drug abuse and aiding rehabilitation, and is part of a broader strategy to address the issue of illegal drugs.
DDB Undersecretary Armando Ramolete emphasized the importance of prevention and rehabilitation in the fight against drug abuse, alongside law enforcement efforts.
He noted that active community participation and empowered local governments are also crucial in achieving lasting solutions to the problem.
The grant reflects the DDB's partnership with local government units in pursuing a balanced, health-centered and evidence-based approach to addressing illegal drugs.
The partnership is in line with the provisions of Republic Act No. 9165, which mandates the DDB to support facilities and programs that promote drug demand reduction, treatment, rehabilitation and recovery.
