Police funeral for Const. Tarun Bali held Thursday in Toronto

An Ontario Provincial Police constable who was killed on duty last week is remembered as the “glue” of his unit.

A childhood photo of the officer was displayed at the front of a packed funeral venue in Mississauga, followed by a photo of him in uniform.

The service, held at the Sports and Entertainment Centre, was attended by family, colleagues, and representatives from police, emergency services, and the military.

The funeral was not open to the general public but was livestreamed; messages of support could be posted online.

The officer’s regional commander described him as the glue holding the group together during challenges.

The commander expressed that the officer’s courage would never be forgotten and offered comfort to the officer’s wife and parents.

A senior officer recalled the officer’s warmth and his dedication, noting his work across 11 detachments and volunteer service with victim support.

Hindu priests offered prayers in Sanskrit, and attendees observed a moment of silence while a fellow constable sang the national anthem.

The provincial premier spoke to mourners, noting the officer’s impact across the province and the community.

The premier emphasized that the province owes a debt of gratitude and pledged to preserve the officer’s legacy.

The constable died on June 9 after being struck by a vehicle during an investigation in Hearst, Ontario.

An 18‑year‑old male has been charged with first‑degree murder, dangerous driving and flight from police.

A few days later, another constable was killed in a separate incident in North York.

A moment of silence was held at a baseball game and a procession that drew first responders from across the province.
