Traditional methods of cleaning hard floors often leave behind residue that can be difficult to detect. The UV Stain Detect feature in the Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal uses UV light to identify these hidden messes, allowing the robot to target its cleaning efforts and leave floors looking their best.
The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal comes with a self-cleaning dock that empties the robot's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes its mop pad between runs. This means that the system has enough capacity to clean and refresh the mop pad without constant refilling, but it also requires a dedicated parking spot with enough clearance for the robot to come and go.
The robot uses its built-in camera and UV light to find hidden stains and then finishes the primary mopping run before returning to the base station to rinse and refresh the mop pad. It then heads back out for targeted stain cleaning, using its broad mop pad to scrub 100 times per minute and provide more agitation than a standard mop pad.
The PowerDetect UV Reveal performed exceptionally well on hard floors, removing crumbs, tracked-in dirt, and other loose messes with ease. It also did well along baseboards, where robot vacuums often leave a thin line of debris.
However, the results on area rugs were more mixed, with the robot able to clear the rug of crumbs and a few tufts of cat hair but leaving behind individual strands of hair clinging to the rug fibers.
The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal is worth considering for homes with lots of hard flooring and regular kitchen, pet, or kid messes. At its sale price of $899.99, it makes sense for those who want an automated mopping system, self-cleaning dock, and UV stain detection that gives the robot a more specific job than simply running through the house on a schedule.
The robot's performance and features make it an excellent hard-floor maintenance robot, but it may not be the best choice for homes with mostly carpeted floors.
