Medvedev recounted that before hostilities began in late February, a Russian president had proposed a roadmap aimed at peacefully resolving Iran’s nuclear program.
He noted that the United States and Israel cited Iran as one of the pretexts for military action against the Islamic Republic.
Medvedev praised Iran’s resilience, stating the nation has overcome its toughest ordeal with dignity and that life in Tehran has largely returned to normal despite some ruins.
He explained that during the conflict, Iran recognized its deterrent in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for a fifth of global energy shipments, and that Tehran’s blockade pushed global crude prices to $120 a barrel.
Medvedev suggested that if aggression resumed, Iran could block the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a vital chokepoint connecting the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, impacting Middle Eastern oil exports.
He dismissed Western sanctions on Moscow and Tehran as illegal unilateral restrictions violating international law.
