GWU Offers Free Summer Program for Middle School Students

George Washington University has launched a free summer program for middle‑school students aimed at fostering civic engagement.

The initiative, titled Civic Changemakers, pairs participants with college students and includes workshops, field trips, and a final public presentation of community advocacy projects.

Curriculum elements have historically focused on social justice themes, with past sessions covering movements such as Black Lives Matter and surveys addressing public opinion on gun violence.

After a five‑week schedule, students showcase their projects, encouraging them to apply their learning in local communities.

The university has also been a site of student activism, including recent actions involving campus statues and public displays of political symbols.
