The Arizona Cardinals' Isaiah Adams is among four people charged by Durham Regional Police in connection with a guns and gangs investigation that concluded last week.
The 25-year-old Adams, a native of Pickering, was identified as one of the individuals charged in a news release issued by Durham police.
Adams is facing charges of possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm, and possession of a prohibited device.
Police alleged in the news release that they were investigating a male suspect believed to be in possession of a firearm and involved in drug trafficking before locating him and a female in a vehicle in Ajax.
During a search of the vehicle, police seized 3 kg of suspected fentanyl, and a search of a residence in Pickering resulted in the arrest of another female suspect without incident.
The suspects were all held for a bail hearing, with police stating that the allegations have yet to be proven in court.
Adams was picked 71st overall by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft and has since started 16 games for the NFC West Division club, mostly at right guard.
Cardinals players are expected to report to training camp on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen how Adams' situation will be handled by the team.
Adams was also the top-ranked Canadian prospect heading into the 2024 CFL Draft, but went undrafted. He was added to the Edmonton Elks' negotiation list on Tuesday, the day after his charges were announced.
