Microsoft has formally requested the ability to offer a comparable cross‑device clipboard feature for Windows devices, citing strong user demand for basic productivity tools that operate across platforms.
The request was submitted in March and received approval on June 26, paving the way for further development of interoperability solutions.
Apple has indicated that reproducing Universal Clipboard on Windows is not feasible without compromising system integrity, and will instead introduce a new framework that mirrors the patterns of Accessory Notifications and Accessory Live Activities.
The forthcoming solution will enable developers to create extensions that receive notifications when items are copied to the clipboard, then use the Accessory Transport Extension framework to share those items with paired accessories via available transport methods.
Adoption of the solution will require integration of AccessorySetupKit, allowing users to grant one‑time permission for each accessory that accesses the clipboard.
