Skyway Airlines, a Philippine cargo carrier founded in 2022, plans to expand its fleet to 10 aircraft by 2030 to meet rising demand for agricultural and aquatic goods.
Vedant Bhardwaj, director for Business Development and External Affairs, said, “Our vision now is to connect the aqua‑agri products of the Philippines to the world, which has not been done yet. It’s an ecosystem for every business to grow. Our target is 10 aircraft by 2030.”
The airline operates three Boeing 737 narrowbodies with an average age of 29.8 years, a typical lifespan for cargo aircraft that endure less wear than passenger planes.
Cargo aircraft typically outlast passenger jets, which experience more wear from frequent takeoffs and landings.
Skyway links the Philippines with China and Hong Kong, transporting electronics and agricultural goods from Davao and General Santos City.
Plans are in place to launch cargo flights between the Philippines and India in the future.
Skyway transports general, specialized, and dangerous goods on non‑scheduled flights, with a capacity of 18 tons per flight.
E‑commerce companies make up the bulk of Skyway's clients, with inbound cargo ranging from 60% to 70%.
Rising fuel prices have not disrupted operations; the airline continues regular flights and anticipates adding two more aircraft this year, subject to fuel costs.
Cargo congestion at Ninoy Aquino International Airport has affected the airline’s clients, reducing backlog from 60%–70% to about 20% by the end of July.
