Harry Styles has survived screaming fans, 12 sold-out Wembley Stadium shows, many questionable haircuts, and enough confetti to bury a small village. But in the end, it was one tiny zip that nearly stole the show.
Fresh off performing his smash hit As It Was during the final night of his record-breaking Wembley residency on Saturday, the 32-year-old dropped dramatically to his knees in the middle of the stage to soak up the applause from 80,000 fans. Unfortunately, as he looked down to catch his breath, he noticed his zipper had also fallen to its knees.
Realising he’d very nearly given tens of thousands of people a far more intimate souvenir than they’d paid for, Harry swiftly zipped up his black trousers before looking back out at the crowd. Because this is the internet, the moment was filmed, uploaded, and dissected within minutes of its occurrence.
‘When you’re overcome with emotion but then you look down and realise you almost gave over 90k people a free view of your premium package,’ joked one fan. The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions from fans, with some poking fun at the embarrassing moment.
One fan joked ‘Wouldn’t be Harry if his fly wasn’t open somewhere in the tour’. Another pointed out the far more terrifying possibility: ‘Mind you, this is the last song. Who knows how long it was like that.’
Perhaps the funniest reaction came from a longtime fan who noted that this wasn’t exactly unexplored territory for the former One Direction star. ‘Wouldn’t be Harry if his fly wasn’t open somewhere in the tour,’ they laughed.
Thankfully, the rogue zip was about the only thing that went wrong during Harry’s hugely successful 12-night Wembley run, which wrapped up with plenty of emotional moments. The final show included a touching tribute to his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne, while Harry also shared the stage with his sister Gemma in a rare public appearance.
Gemma told the crowd how proud she was of her younger brother, describing him as her ‘best friend’ before the pair shared a hug as Wembley erupted into cheers. It’s enough to make you forget all about the trousers. Almost.
Another moment that had fans talking came on June 28, when the singer appeared to cough and struggle to catch his breath as he lay on his back on the stage. Despite the extreme weather that has caused disruption across the UK and led to rule changes at Harry’s gigs, it wasn’t the scorching heat which caused him to collapse.
The incident occurred after an ‘onstage mishap’ during his ‘signature crowd interaction’. An accidental water intake led to the unexpected stumble, leaving fans worried for his well-being. Thankfully, Harry was able to recover and continue his show.
Harry then peels himself off the ground and a large sweat patch is visible on the back of his shirt. The As It Was singer, clad in his tie and mini shorts, then effortlessly jogs around stage, waving to the adoring crowd.
He can be seen mouthing ‘thank you’ as he soaks up the love from one of his 12 nights at Wembley Stadium this summer. Harry’s UK dates may now be over, but his Together, Together tour is far from finished. Next up, he’ll head to cities including São Paulo, Mexico City and Sydney before taking over New York’s Madison Square Garden for an eye-watering 30-show residency.
