Former Sopranos Actor Found Dead in Bronx Residence

Vincent Pastore, the accomplished actor best known for his role as Salvatore Bonpensiero on HBO's The Sopranos, has died at age 80.

Pastore was discovered deceased in his Bronx home on Saturday by a neighbor after he had been unreachable for three days. The circumstances surrounding his passing are currently under investigation.

Born on July 14, 1946, in New York City to an Italian American family, Pastore grew up in New Rochelle before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era.

He later earned a degree in drama from Pace University and built a distinguished career specializing in tough-guy and mobster roles that became his signature.

His early film credits included appearances in Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas and Brian De Palma's Carlito's Way, establishing him as a reliable character actor in crime dramas.

Pastore's breakthrough came in the mid-1990s with roles in The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the HBO film Gotti, where he first collaborated with future Sopranos colleagues.

His most defining performance arrived as "Big Pussy," Tony Soprano's longtime friend and crew member who becomes an FBI informant, a role that catapulted him to mainstream recognition.

The Sopranos earned its cast a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series, with Pastore's performance widely praised by critics and audiences alike.

He is survived by his daughter Renee, his former spouse Nancy Berke, and a legacy of memorable character work that defined an era of television drama.
