Former President Barack Obama publicly backed Iowa State Representative Josh Turek in the upcoming U.S. Senate race, urging voters to support the Democratic candidate.
In a video released ahead of the election, Obama and Turek played a modified game of horse on a basketball court, exchanging light‑hearted remarks that highlighted their shared connection to Iowa.
Turek, a four‑time Paralympic wheelchair basketball athlete and two‑time gold medalist, brings a distinguished athletic record to his political campaign.
The race will pit Turek against Republican U.S. House member Ashley Hinson, who secured the party’s nomination for the general election.
The contest arises from the decision of incumbent Senator Joni Ernst not to seek re‑election, leaving the seat open for new candidates.
In a separate endorsement, former President Donald Trump announced his support for Hinson, adding a high‑profile endorsement to the Republican campaign.
