Brooke Hanlon's life as friend traced through photos

Brooke Hanlon's life as friend traced through photos

The homicide investigation into Brooke Hanlon, a 35‑year‑old therapist from Chester, New Jersey, entered its third month this week without any identified suspect or person of interest.

Hanlon was discovered dead from multiple stab wounds inside her home on June 6. Police have confirmed the death as a homicide, but no arrests have been made and the case remains open.

Nearly eight weeks after the crime, authorities have released no further details, maintaining a low public profile to preserve investigative integrity.

Jennifer Payne, a close friend and former roommate from graduate school, described the situation as “confusing, heartbreaking, and incredibly frustrating.” She shared memories of the two women’s time together in Boston and the years that followed.

Payne said she has been in a “functional freeze,” carrying out daily tasks while still processing the loss. She added that the lack of information fuels speculation and leaves her mind racing to fill the gaps.

Brooke’s husband, James “Conor” Hanlon, has not issued any public comments regarding his wife’s death or the impact on their 12‑month‑old daughter.

Chester Township Mayor Tim Drag issued a statement expressing condolences to the family and reaffirmed the community’s support for law‑enforcement efforts while declining to discuss specifics of the case.

Payne emphasized her priority is to honor Brooke’s life and ensure her daughter grows up knowing her mother’s love and the vibrant person she was, rather than being defined solely by the tragedy.
