The city of Vancouver has taken the top spot in Canada with the latest rankings from the Global Livability Index, released Tuesday.
The index, which evaluates 173 cities across the globe, saw Vancouver rise one spot to ninth overall, based on 30 indicators grouped into five categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
According to the survey, Vancouver achieved perfect scores for education, with most of the top 10 cities also scoring 100 for healthcare provision.
Danish capital Copenhagen was named the most livable city for the second year in a row, scoring a perfect 100 in three categories and above 95 in the other two.
Copenhagen was followed by Vienna, Austria, Melbourne, Australia, Sydney, Australia, and Zurich, Switzerland, making up the top five cities in the world.
Canada's second city, Vancouver, was followed by Geneva, Switzerland, Osaka, Japan, Adelaide, Australia, and Tokyo, Japan in the top 10 rankings.
These top cities were recognized for their perfect scores in education, with most also receiving 100 for healthcare.
The Global Livability Index, conducted in May, ranked stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure with varying weights, including 25% for stability.
Notably, Toronto did not crack the top 10 for the third consecutive year, with its highest ranking in the past decade being fourth overall from 2015 to 2017.
Syria's capital, Damascus, was ranked last with an overall score of 32 out of 100, due to its ongoing recovery from civil war.
Other cities at the bottom of the list include Kyiv, Ukraine, and Iran's capital, Tehran, both of which have been affected by war and poverty.
