Actor Frankie Muniz has faced backlash for a family video he posted alongside his divorce announcement, sparking criticism from fans who questioned the lighthearted tone of the clip.
The video, which showed Muniz and his wife Paige dancing with their son, Mauz, was initially met with negative comments, with some accusing him of making the divorce a "spectator sport." However, Muniz's estranged wife Paige has since defended him, stating that she's "so sorry" that he felt the need to delete the original post due to cruel comments.
Paige added that she's "can't believe" people scrutinized the video, saying, "This world is so f*... divorce is bad, sure — it's not like we're excited about it... but we're two adults who know how to be on the same team."
Despite the initial backlash, many fans later came to Muniz's defense, sharing their support for the amicable split and praising the couple's ability to remain friends for the sake of their son.
Muniz, who is best known for his role in the hit sitcom Malcolm in the Middle, initially shared a statement announcing the end of his marriage, stating that he and Paige had decided to move forward with ending their marriage after 10 years together.
The couple met in 2016 and got married three years later, before welcoming their son into the world in March 2021. Muniz has credited Paige with being his biggest supporter, saying she put her own dreams on hold so he could pursue his ambitions.
In a statement, Muniz expressed gratitude for Paige's role in his life, stating, "I'm endlessly grateful to Paige for everything she's done for me and our family. She put her own dreams on hold so I could chase mine, and she was always my biggest supporter."
The couple has chosen to keep their divorce private, thanking fans for their love and support while asking for respect for their family's privacy during this time.
Muniz's statement concluded with a message of hope and positivity, stating, "We're closing one chapter with gratitude and opening the next with bright futures ahead, for us as individuals and especially for our son."
