On Saturday a vehicle rammed into participants of the Berlin Christopher Street Parade, killing at least one person and wounding sixteen others.
After the collision the driver exited the car, brandished a bladed weapon, and continued attacking people in a nearby park along the parade route.
Police identified the suspect as a 21‑year‑old man who had been on law‑enforcement watch lists for involvement in extremist circles.
Authorities located the individual the following day in a garden plot, surrounded the area, and engaged him after he attacked officers with the weapon. He was shot and died at 18:34 local time. The operation concluded the immediate threat posed by the attacker.
The incident struck one of Europe’s largest annual LGBT events, prompting heightened security measures for future celebrations.
Investigators are examining the motive behind the attack and any potential links to broader extremist networks.
