The US President has taken aim at the UK, saying it is 'sitting on top of gold' with North Sea oil but has chosen the way of 'loser' windmills.
Donald Trump made the comments in the White House, stressing that Prime Minister Andy Burnham is 'going to have a very good relationship' with world leaders.
Trump stated that two things are killing Europe: immigration and energy. He noted that the UK has one of the best energy fields in the world, North Sea oil, but has chosen not to use it.
'You open it up, you'll be a wealthy country. You keep it closed, you're going to be a bankrupt country, which is what you are now,' Trump said.
He added that the UK is 'sitting on top of gold, better than gold, and you don't do anything with it.' Trump also claimed that drilling North Sea Oil could provide free energy for a millennium.
The US President went on to say that any country with windmills is a 'loser.' He criticized the UK for its use of windmills, saying they 'lose your shirt' and are a 'bad choice' for energy.
After his first phone call with Trump, Burnham said he would 'take a pragmatic approach when it comes to the North Sea.' The Labour Party's 2024 manifesto stated that it would not issue new North Sea licences, but Burnham's comments may indicate a shift in stance.
Trump also made headlines by stating that he is giving Iran a last chance to end the war. He claimed that last-gasp talks with Tehran are 'going on right now' and that Iran 'begged' for the meeting.
The US President added that this is a 'last chance for them to sign a good document,' after cancelling strikes over the weekend.
