A prominent Democratic commentator and longtime progressive activist is publicly breaking with the party’s far-left faction, warning that radical proposals are undermining core Democratic values.
In a statement released over the weekend, the activist emphasized continued allegiance to mainstream progressive goals such as criminal justice reform, universal healthcare, free education, and environmental protection.
He argued that elements within groups such as the Democratic Socialists of America have advanced positions far beyond those policies, including opposition to law enforcement, open borders, and support for hostile foreign actors.

The commentator described such positions as regressive rather than progressive, contrasting them with tangible reforms like guaranteed medical care and clean air that represent genuine societal advancement.
He cautioned that extremists are attempting to insert backward proposals into the party by exploiting frustration with both the MAGA movement and Democratic establishment leadership.
The warning follows earlier concerns that DSA-backed candidates have defeated moderate Democrats in key races, with establishment strategists acknowledging a structural disadvantage in grassroots organizing.
Other party figures have echoed these anxieties, with one veteran strategist suggesting a formal split may be necessary if the socialist faction continues expanding its influence.
A former national security official warned that a coordinated effort by radical elements seeks to hijack the party, destabilize the economy, and dismantle foundational government institutions.
