The Nassau County Police Department conducted quality-of-life enforcement operations in Roosevelt, resulting in the discovery of illegal electronic gambling machines at two businesses.
During a series of inspections on July 6, officers from the Strategic Response Team visited various establishments, focusing on community enforcement and licensed premises.
At Good Food & Shake, located at 90 Nassau Road, investigators found two hidden electronic gambling machines, which were subsequently seized along with $1,276 in cash.
Erick Hernandez Martinez, 33, of Freeport, was charged with possession of gambling devices, unlicensed public assembly, disorderly premise, and operating without a valid New York State liquor license.
Martinez was issued an appearance ticket and released, with a scheduled court appearance on July 20.
A second inspection at Stop & Go Food Market, 135 Babylon Turnpike, revealed four additional hidden electronic gambling machines, which were confiscated by officers.
Along with the machines, authorities recovered $390 in cash during the inspection, leading to charges against Rafael Rodriguez, 63, of Uniondale, for possession of gambling devices, unlicensed public assembly, and disorderly premise.
Rodriguez received an appearance ticket and was released, with a scheduled court appearance on July 20.
The combined efforts of the police department resulted in the seizure of six illegal electronic gambling machines from the two locations and the recovery of more than $1,600 in cash.
The enforcement operation was part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing quality-of-life concerns in the Roosevelt community.
While additional inspections or enforcement actions are possible, no further information about the investigation was released by the police department.
