Tragedy struck in Brampton on Sunday as a shooting occurred in broad daylight, resulting in the death of a man. According to police, the incident took place in the Earlsbridge Blvd.-Edenbrook Hill Dr. area, where officers were called at approximately 3:40 p.m. to respond to a shooting.
Upon arrival, police found a man with gunshot wounds and paramedics rushed him to a trauma centre with critical injuries. The victim was later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not been released, and the death is currently under investigation by the homicide unit.
Police reported that there was an altercation between the parties before the shooting occurred. The incident took place in a busy subdivision, with people in the area at the time. Police are appealing for information from the public and are still trying to determine if the victim and the suspects knew each other.
Two male suspects, dressed in dark hooded clothing, fled on foot from the scene. No additional descriptions of the suspects have been provided. Police have assured the public that there is no further threat.
In a separate incident in Etobicoke, a boy was sent to hospital after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike on Sunday afternoon. The young cyclist was riding his bike in the Islington Ave.-Bloor St. W. area at approximately 3 p.m. when the collision occurred.
The boy sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and has not been charged. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In another incident, a school bus carrying children and adult passengers was involved in a crash on Hwy. 11 just north of Barrie on Sunday afternoon. The bus collided with an SUV at approximately 1:45 p.m. near Line 3 South in Oro-Medonte.
There were a few minor injuries reported, and no one was hospitalized. Drivers were charged accordingly, according to police. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Separately, one person was hospitalized with serious injuries after a minivan crash in Burlington on Sunday afternoon. Halton Regional Police responded to the scene at 12:40 p.m. after a serious single-vehicle crash on North Service Rd. east of Brant St.
One of the occupants of the white minivan was transported to an out-of-region trauma centre, while no other injuries were reported. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
