Toronto Police are seeking tips on the identity of a man accused of a nightclub assault in the Entertainment District. The suspect and the victim were at a nightclub in the Queen St. W.-Peter St. area on June 28 at about 2:40 a.m. and got into a verbal altercation that led to the suspect striking the victim on the head with glass before fleeing.
The victim, who did not know the suspect, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is described as a 25- to 35-year-old man with a medium build, long dreadlocks and various tattoos on both arms, his neck, and possibly his face. He was last seen wearing a white bucket hat, glasses, a chain, a black shirt with a colourful print on the front, black jeans, and black shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477 or 222tips.com. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Meanwhile, Durham Regional Police have made significant progress in their ongoing Project Atlantis initiative. The project, which began in April, has resulted in hundreds of arrests and numerous seizures of illicit drugs. Officers from the Central East Division's community resource unit have engaged in targeted enforcement, intelligence-led investigations, and community engagement to disrupt the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in downtown Oshawa.
Between April and July, police made 267 arrests, issued 225 provincial offence notices, and made 289 business and community engagement visits. They also seized 45 grams of fentanyl, 674 grams of cocaine, 12 grams of crack-cocaine, and more than $10,000 in criminal proceeds. The project will continue until the end of the year, with a focus on enhancing public safety in the area.
The success of Project Atlantis has been attributed to the high visibility patrols conducted by officers. They completed over 1,300 hours of bicycle patrol, 160 hours of foot patrol, 64 hours of UTV patrol, and nearly 100 hours dedicated to youth and school engagement. In other news, a man was rescued from the Scarborough Bluffs after a passerby heard cries for help. The incident is under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
Additionally, a trio of Toronto apartment fires has resulted in two deaths and four injuries. The fires occurred in separate locations, and the cause is still unknown. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to determine the cause of the fires.
