The memorandum of understanding signed between the two parties last November suspended the Clean Electricity Regulations, allowing the Meta project to proceed. The Meta investment is considered a major win for Smith and Alberta. Brett Wilson, a prominent investor and former Dragon's Den star, praised the project as "unbelievable" and noted that it has the potential to generate significant revenue for the province.
Smith is confident that there will be no shortage of customers looking to purchase oil from the new pipeline. She cited the disruption in the Strait of Hormuz and the interest from international Asian country leaders who are seeking a secure supply of energy.
The pipeline proposals have already changed investor thinking, according to Wilson. Governments are now openly backing construction and trying to create certainty for investors, which is a significant shift from previous regulatory uncertainty.
