Comedian Mo Gilligan embarked on a 28‑day journey across the United Kingdom and the United States, consuming only fried chicken to probe the forces behind cravings and the industry that fuels them.
The experience, documented in a new feature, exposed rapid physical changes and highlighted the use of dimethylpolysiloxane, a silicone lubricant commonly added to foods and other consumer products.
Gilligan described the experiment as a “nightmare,” citing the swift weight gain and the unsettling discovery that the same additive is found in a variety of everyday items.
Interviews with historians, farmers, nutrition experts, and industry insiders provide insight into the cultural, economic, and health dimensions of fried chicken consumption.
He stressed the importance of challenging stereotypes that associate fried chicken with Black culture, framing the dish within a broader historical narrative.
The documentary, produced by the same company behind a recent investigative series, premiered on a global streaming platform on August 5.
