Russia’s foreign minister warned that exclusive security arrangements backed by the United States in the Indo‑Pacific are seeking to erode ASEAN’s central role, replacing its consensus‑driven approach with bloc politics aimed at containing China and marginalising Russia.

He underscored a shared commitment between Russia and ASEAN to a multipolar international order founded on equality, mutual benefit and respect for national sovereignty.

The minister highlighted ongoing efforts to expand practical cooperation, noting that bilateral trade reached approximately $22 billion in the previous year.

Both parties aim to double that figure by 2036, targeting deeper collaboration in technology, energy, space, maritime activities, food security, counter‑terrorism and humanitarian exchanges.
