The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a key vote that would have advanced Todd Blanche’s nomination for Attorney General.
The vote, originally scheduled for Thursday morning, was delayed by Chairman Chuck Grassley after opposition from Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis.
Both senators are demanding that the Department of Justice submit a written commitment that Blanche will eliminate the so‑called weaponization fund.
The request is linked to concerns over the administration’s IRS agreement and broader policy issues.
In response, President Donald J. Trump said he could temporarily withdraw Blanche’s nomination until the two senators leave office.
The president described Blanche as a “star” and indicated that the nominee would remain acting if the situation persisted.
Trump also referenced past votes by Cornyn and Tillis for other nominees, suggesting a political dispute over the confirmation.
The nomination remains stalled as the committee and the administration await resolution of the senators’ conditions.
