Trump slams John, warns it’s bad for Republican Party

President Donald Trump publicly rebuked Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Wednesday, intensifying a dispute over the Republican agenda in the Senate.

Trump claimed Thune has stalled the SAVE America Act and impeded efforts to eliminate the filibuster, urging Republican senators to move forward without delay.

Thune earlier indicated a willingness to find a solution but warned that endless quorum calls would not serve anyone’s interests, emphasizing the need for a realistic path forward.

During a press briefing, Thune reiterated that the SAVE America Act requires 50 votes and that the Senate currently lacks sufficient support to pass the measure.

Trump dismissed Thune’s remarks, stating that the leader possesses the votes and should deliver results, describing the situation as harmful to the Republican Party.

When asked whether Thune remains fit for the leadership role, Trump suggested his future could be reassessed if the legislation does not succeed.

The clash highlights broader intra‑party tensions, with Thune alleging that at least a dozen Republican senators oppose efforts to end the filibuster.

Thune also criticized the White House press secretary for blaming Republicans, urging direct outreach to senators to secure the necessary votes.
