Unlocking Peak Performance: Essential Tips for Suunto Run Users

Unlocking Peak Performance: Essential Tips for Suunto Run Users

The Suunto Run is a delightful little watch that offers a lot of value for its price. It's lightweight, with a big, bright screen, and it does a lot of what an entry-level Garmin can do, but at a much better price. Normally costing around $200, it's easily one of the best affordable running watches out there.

One of the frustrating default features of the Suunto Run is that it will mark a lap and beep at you after every kilometer, even if you've set your units to Imperial (miles and so on). However, there's a workaround for this issue. You can find the setting to change the autolap either within the app or on the watch itself, but the trick is that you have to choose a type of exercise and select Free Training. This is the mode you'll normally use when you run, and that's where you'll find Autolap, which is set by default to 0.62 miles.

Another convenient feature of the Suunto Run is the ability to put a stopwatch right into your widget list. This way, all you have to do is swipe up from the bottom of the watch to start the stopwatch. The widgets are customizable, and you can add new widgets or rearrange them to suit your needs. This feature makes it easy to track your time and progress during a run.

The Suunto Run also allows you to switch the type of run you're doing without starting a new workout. This is convenient if you're running on the road and decide you want to finish your run on the trails. You can do this by long-pressing the top button, which will pause your run and show you how long you've been paused at the transition. Once you're ready to go, you can hit the start button and Suunto will record the two segments as different parts of the same workout.

Another useful feature of the Suunto Run is its ability to alert you when it detects that a storm might be coming. This is possible because the watch has a barometer/altimeter that measures air pressure. To turn on storm alerts, go into Settings and then Outdoor and turn on Storm alarms. You can also calibrate your altimeter and set storm alerts so you'll never be caught out in the rain.

The Suunto Run also makes it surprisingly easy to save points of interest and navigate to them without a lot of fuss. You can mark interesting or useful areas in your local park, such as water taps or scenic overlooks, and save them for future reference. The watch also comes with a navigation app, accessible from the bottom of the widget list, which allows you to navigate without having an activity running.

Overall, the Suunto Run is a versatile and user-friendly watch that offers a lot of value for its price. Its features, such as the ability to put a stopwatch in your widget list and switch between different types of runs, make it a great choice for runners who want a hassle-free experience.
