During the April incident at the Washington Hilton, a suspect identified as Cole Allen stormed the banquet, prompting Secret Service agents to evacuate the president and first lady and forcing the event to cease.
Leavitt described the upcoming address as a blend of humor and seriousness, emphasizing that it will be entertaining for the audience.
First lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be absent due to prior commitments, while cabinet officials including the FBI Director, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Treasury Secretary, the Commerce Secretary, and others are expected to attend.
President Trump has stated that rescheduling the dinner demonstrates resolve against attempts to disrupt national traditions, and he indicated that the tone of his remarks will be clarified shortly.
