A Coptic Christian church in the village of Tal Al-Quiblya in Upper Egypt was attacked by a mob on July 8, resulting in injuries and property damage.
The community had been meeting for worship in a building that had been designated as a church after years of holding services in private homes. Residents noted that the distances between homes sometimes made regular attendance difficult, prompting the decision to use a central structure.
During the assault, stones were thrown at the church and its surrounding area. The priest’s vehicle was damaged, and several worshippers sustained injuries.
Police arrived quickly, arresting several members of the attacking crowd. Four Christian men who had been beaten were also detained.
The detainees were released on July 10 only after they withdrew formal complaints against their assailants.
Officials had been warned of potential hostility in advance, yet no preventive measures were taken to protect the congregation.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between Christian minorities and local Muslim communities in rural parts of the country, where religious disputes sometimes erupt into violence.
