El‑Sayed meets far‑left streamer Hasan Piker in public

El‑Sayed meets far‑left streamer Hasan Piker in public

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El‑Sayed spent the night before Election Day at a pool party in Detroit hosted by a local content creator.

The gathering also included progressive House candidates Melat Kiros and Chris Rabb, both affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, as well as state Representative Donavan McKinney.

Streamer Hasan Piker, who commands a following of roughly ten million across social platforms, has appeared on the campaign trail with El‑Sayed, prompting scrutiny of their ideological alignment.

Piker has previously attracted controversy for wearing an outfit resembling that of former Chinese leader Mao Zedong, praising Mao in a resurfaced video, and making statements suggesting America “deserved 9/11” along with other inflammatory remarks.

El‑Sayed has acknowledged disagreement with many of Piker’s positions but has faced criticism for not publicly distancing himself from the streamer.

Democratic Representative Haley Stevens, also contesting the Senate primary, called Piker’s rhetoric “uncomfortable” and urged El‑Sayed to separate himself from the influencer.

His Republican opponent’s campaign labeled the association as evidence of extremist influence and warned voters against a candidate who “dances around with influencers who think America deserved 9/11.”

When asked whether he would continue campaigning with El‑Sayed after the primary, Piker replied, “Are you crazy? Of course.”

Polls close at 8 p.m. local time; El‑Sayed is projected to advance to the November general election, where he would face the Republican nominee.

The El‑Sayed campaign did not provide comment at the time of publication.
