As we approach Apple's highly anticipated September event, rumors surrounding the next-generation iPhone have reached a fever pitch. Leaked claims suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could be significantly thicker than their predecessors, possibly increasing in thickness by as much as 20 percent.
However, this speculation is not supported by existing evidence. CAD files and leaked dummy units have consistently shown the same overall chassis thickness as the current generation, at 8.75 mm. This detail has remained consistent across multiple leaks, including physical dummy units that have surfaced in recent months.
The main body of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max appears unchanged, with the larger camera bump and slightly taller lenses being the only noticeable differences. Sources connected to Apple's supply chain have also corroborated this information, suggesting that the camera module will be thicker, but not the phone body itself.
The distinction between overall device thickness and camera module size is crucial, as many leaks can create a misleading impression. Renders or dummy units can easily give the impression that the entire phone has grown when, in reality, it's only the camera housing protruding further from the back.
Some leakers, including Ice Universe, have claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro will be 9 mm thick, while others, such as Fixed Focus Digital, suggest it could be as much as 2mm thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro. However, these claims should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism, as Apple's plans can change until relatively late in development.
Multiple sources, including our own, still suggest that the new phones will be about the same thickness as the current models. While the truth will only be revealed in a couple of months, it's essential to separate fact from speculation and approach these rumors with a critical eye.
