Tropical Storm Kujira, locally known as Maymay, has prompted the issuance of Storm Signal No. 2 across seven regions of Luzon, signaling life‑threatening winds and heavy rainfall.
Under Signal No. 2, gale‑force winds are expected in Ilocos Sur, northern and central La Union, northwestern Pangasinan, southwestern Abra, western Mountain Province, and northwestern Benguet. These conditions present a moderate risk to life and property.
Signal No. 1 remains in effect over the remaining parts of Luzon, including the rest of Pangasinan, Apayao, the rest of Abra, Kalinga, the rest of Mountain Province, Ifugao, the rest of Benguet, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, northern Zambales, northern Tarlac, northern Nueva Ecija, and northern and central Aurora. Strong winds in these areas pose a minor threat.
The storm was located 185 kilometers west‑northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, at 10 a.m. and is moving eastward toward the country. It may make landfall in Ilocos Sur or La Union by late Wednesday or early Thursday, then traverse northern and central Luzon on Thursday.
Heavy rainfall is projected over La Union and Benguet, increasing the likelihood of flooding and landslides in those regions.
Residents in affected areas are advised to prepare for potential disruptions and to monitor weather updates closely.
