Congressman Andy Ogles publicly urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune to place the SAVE America Act on the Senate floor or consider resigning from his leadership position.
In a post on X, Ogles argued that there were no legitimate reasons for the delay and that open debate was essential for garnering the necessary votes.
During an interview with John Bickley, Ogles referenced historical instances where a talking filibuster facilitated the passage of major legislation, including the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and the Dodd‑Frank Act.
He contended that the SAVE America Act, which enjoys broad public support, should follow a similar procedural route and called on Thune to schedule a floor vote or step aside.
Ogles noted that President Trump and a majority of Americans have expressed frustration with the Senate’s inaction, citing polling that shows over 80 percent of the public favors enactment of the measure.
When asked about explanations from Senate Republicans, Ogles said he had heard no satisfactory answer beyond Thune’s claim of insufficient votes, urging the leader to bring the bill forward and allow a recorded vote.
He concluded that Thune possesses the procedural tools and historical precedent to act, and that continued refusal erodes public confidence in the Senate’s ability to fulfill its duties.
