Manchester United Pursues Highly Sought Barcelona Forward

Manchester United have identified 19‑year‑old Racing Santander left‑back Jorge Salinas as a contingency plan if a deal for Newcastle defender Lewis Hall falls through. The club views Salinas as a serious “plan B” option at left‑back for the upcoming summer window.

United entered the transfer period focused on strengthening central midfield, securing Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. The left‑back position quickly rose in priority, with Hall listed as the club’s top target.

Hall, a regular starter for Newcastle and England, has attracted interest from several top clubs. United appear ready to meet Newcastle’s valuation of more than £50 million.

To protect against a blocked transfer, United have turned attention to Salinas, whose €16 million (£13.7 million) release clause at Racing Santander would be triggered if the club proceeds. United are prepared to activate the clause should negotiations for Hall stall.

The Spanish champion also monitors Salinas as a potential replacement for João Cancelo, who is expected to depart for Al‑Hilal. Recent negotiations have stalled, keeping United in contention for the young full‑back.

Salinas impressed at the European Under‑19 Championship, where Spain captured the title, drawing United’s focus. The club has followed his progress closely since that tournament.

United’s technical staff believe the teenager could join the first‑team squad immediately and provide competition for left‑back Luke Shaw. They anticipate Salinas will adapt quickly to the demands of Premier League football.

Salinas signed his first professional contract with Racing Santander until June 2029; he debuted in 2024 and has accumulated 37 senior appearances with seven assists. His contributions helped the club win the Segunda División championship and secure promotion to La Liga.

While Hall remains United’s primary target, former Newcastle midfielder Jermaine Jenas described a move for the England international as a significant step forward for both player and club. He highlighted Hall’s consistent performances and the impact such a transfer would have.
