Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has indicated interest in signing Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk, joining two other Premier League clubs monitoring the player.
Mudryk rejoined Chelsea’s pre‑season tour after the Football Association concluded his anti‑doping case. He was provisionally suspended in November 2024 after testing positive for meldonium, but accepted responsibility and served a suspension of one year and eight months, ending the proceedings.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso welcomed Mudryk’s return but cautioned that it is too early to assess his fitness or performance levels. A loan move is being considered to provide regular playing time and help him regain the form that justified his £62 million transfer.
The total cost of Mudryk’s transfer was reported at £89 million, with several performance‑related add‑ons remaining inactive after he scored five Premier League goals for Chelsea.
Several Premier League and European clubs have expressed interest in a loan deal, and Lampard hopes to secure Mudryk as Coventry prepares for its return to the top flight.
Mudryk said he is grateful to resume playing after what he described as the most difficult period of his career, emphasizing that he never knowingly took a banned substance.
Chelsea issued a statement confirming that the conclusion of the case allows Mudryk to return to football immediately and reiterated the club’s support throughout the process while respecting anti‑doping regulations.
Alonso added that Mudryk has been training alone for months and that reintegrating him will require time and careful management. The club will monitor his progress before deciding on his involvement in upcoming pre‑season matches.
