Arsenal bids £86m to sign Chelsea star in transfer pursuit

Mikel Arteta is actively seeking to reinforce Arsenal’s squad as the new season approaches.

The club has already secured three additions: forward Christos Tzolis, goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and a permanent contract for midfielder Piero Hincapie.

Arsenal are reportedly preparing an £80 million offer for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and have also expressed interest in Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior.

In addition, the Gunners are looking to sign a new striker after Viktor Gyokeres delivered an uneven first campaign.

Julian Alvarez was Arsenal’s top target early in the summer, but a price tag well above £100 million makes the transfer unlikely.

Attention has shifted to Chelsea striker Joao Pedro, with Arsenal said to be prepared to meet a €100 million (£86 million) valuation for the Brazilian forward.

Chelsea v Manchester City - Emirates FA Cup Final

Chelsea view Pedro as a core player and have responded by offering a new long‑term contract that extends his stay beyond his existing deal through 2032, including a substantial salary increase.

Pedro finished the previous season with 20 goals in all competitions, describing it as one of the best periods of his career.

The Brazil international has earned eight caps but was omitted from the World Cup squad.

In pre‑season, Pedro recorded a nine‑minute hat‑trick against Western Sydney Warriors, highlighting his sharp form.

Chelsea’s pre‑season programme includes fixtures against Tottenham, Juventus, AC Milan, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Fulham and Brighton as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
