Jersey prison guard disciplined for sexual misconduct with inmate

A 27-year-old correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, has been charged with sexual abuse and related offenses after an investigation uncovered an illicit relationship with an inmate.

Prosecutors say the officer exchanged explicit text messages with the inmate, discussing topics such as vibrating underwear and expressing a desire for the inmate’s “big man hands.” The correspondence also included sexually graphic photos and videos.

Federal authorities seized the officer’s phone after receiving reports of inappropriate conduct. The device contained a trove of explicit messages, images, and video evidence that formed the basis of the criminal charges.

The alleged relationship began in 2024 and reportedly took place in a prison office. According to investigators, the inmate compensated other incarcerated individuals to act as lookouts while the two engaged in sexual activity.

Concerned about exposure, the officer allegedly attempted to silence potential witnesses, asserting that “they can’t prove nothing.” She also expressed anxiety that rumors of the affair were spreading within the facility.

Text messages retrieved from the phone revealed the officer feared she might be pregnant, noting a missed period and questioning the implications of a mixed‑heritage child. She indicated that she would not be able to keep a pregnancy if it occurred.

Additional messages suggested the officer and the inmate used illicit drugs together, describing episodes in which they were “high” while on duty.

Following the discovery, the officer was placed on administrative leave and released on bail pending trial. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison.

This case adds to a growing number of incidents involving correctional staff engaging in sexual relationships with inmates, a pattern observed in facilities across the United States.

Authorities continue to emphasize the seriousness of such violations, noting that they undermine institutional security and compromise the integrity of correctional operations.
