Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 update, identified as KB5121767, aimed at resolving an issue affecting a limited number of devices following the latest Windows updates.
The patch targets specific Dell PCs and laptops running an Intel driver for the Intel Innovation Platform Framework (Intel IPF), which were previously blocked from receiving some Windows updates due to compatibility issues.
The issue affects devices that may experience changes in system performance, increased power consumption, or unexpected system behavior after installing the latest Windows updates.
Microsoft had temporarily blocked the rollout of the July security update KB5101650 for affected systems, but with the newly released update KB5121767, this block has now been lifted.
The update addresses a conflict with the Intel IPF drivers, which are responsible for functions relating to power management, temperature control, and performance optimisation.
Reports suggest that only a limited number of systems are affected, primarily newer Dell models, including various Precision, XPS, and Pro Max devices.
Microsoft recommends that the vast majority of Windows 11 users do not need to take any action, but rather, they should only install the update on devices that are actually affected by the bug.
Those who have enabled the option "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available" in Windows Update will automatically receive the update, or they can download and install it manually via Settings → Windows Update.
The update includes all previous security and quality improvements from earlier updates and also updates several Windows AI components to version 1.2605.856.0, including features for image search, content recognition, and semantic analysis.
Windows 11 users who have experienced unusual slow performance, increased power consumption, or strange system behavior following the July updates may want to consider installing KB5121767, particularly if they own recent Dell devices with Intel processors.
