Metrobank reports a rapid rise in the use of its online savings product among younger Filipinos.
Since the beginning of the year, more than 87% of all new eSavings accounts have been opened by Gen Z and Millennial customers, according to the bank’s internal data.
The trend signals a shift in how the country’s younger population is managing money, favoring digital platforms that offer anytime, anywhere access.
Nearly half of eSavings users are located in Metro Manila and Region IV, areas known for a high concentration of young professionals.
Female account holders outnumber males, making up the majority of the new online savers.
The bank notes that convenience is only one factor. As young adults build careers, support families, and plan major milestones, the need for sound financial habits grows, and a savings account often serves as the first step toward larger goals.
It emphasizes that starting small is common and that providing tools that simplify the habit can help customers progress from initial savings to long‑term wealth building.
