The North Charleston Police Department is investigating a violent incident involving multiple officers, with several individuals assaulting law enforcement personnel.
According to the department, two female officers suffered minor injuries during the altercation, which was captured on viral video.
The footage shows a female officer attempting to detain a woman when several people rush in, pull the officer to the ground, and begin striking her. Another officer intervenes, deploying a stun gun and helping to restrain the individuals involved in the attack.
The department has vowed to prosecute those responsible for the assaults to the fullest extent of the law, labeling the attacks as unacceptable.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and it is unclear whether any firearms were discharged or a makeshift spear was used during the altercations.
The North Charleston Police Department thanked members of the community who assisted officers during the violence, as well as responding agencies that provided support.
