Witness Describes Emotional Courtroom Moment: Erika Kirk Comforts Accused Assassin's Victim's Relative

A powerful moment of compassion unfolded in a Utah courthouse during a preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, accused of assassinating Charlie Kirk. The victim's widow, Erika Kirk, showed empathy towards a crying woman in the gallery, handing her a tissue as she struggled to cope with the emotional testimony.

The hearing, which began on Tuesday, has allowed the Kirk family to come and go to avoid painful testimony. As the defense attorney cross-examined the lead investigator, the Kirk family left the room when the testimony turned to the fatal gunshot, returning about 10 minutes later when the topic had changed.

Erika Kirk's act of kindness was captured on video by Denae Branch, a woman who was seated in front of her. Branch explained that she had been attending a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, when Kirk was shot and killed. She and her friends had arrived at the courthouse at midnight to secure a spot in the limited seating available to the public.

Branch and her friends had met through a support group for survivors and witnesses in the months following the assassination. Before the hearing, two women in their group were asked to remove or cover up their Turning Point USA T-shirts to comply with the court's decorum order, which bans messages of support for either side in the case.

Branch expressed her admiration for Erika Kirk, describing her as a kind and compassionate person. Despite being strangers at the time of the assassination, Branch and her friends had formed a bond with Erika through their shared experience.

Erika Kirk declined to be interviewed on camera, but expressed her gratitude for the support through an Instagram post. She hoped that those who were there to support her felt her appreciation and prayers.
