The fatal shooting of an illegal alien during a traffic stop by ICE agents has sparked outrage and calls for investigation, with Rep. Al Green demanding transparency and an independent probe.
According to reports, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 31-year-old man from Mexico, was shot and killed after attempting to flee and run over an ICE agent during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas.
Rep. Al Green, a member of the Homeland Security Committee, held a press conference on behalf of the deceased, claiming that the Constitution protects Araujo and that he deserves the same attention as any U.S. citizen.
"Mr. Arajo belongs to us. He belongs to the Constitution of the United States of America," Green said. "That Constitution applies to him, just as it applies to me. He should not receive any less attention from the Constitution that I or any of you would receive."
Green also expressed his support for an investigation into the shooting, stating that the American people deserve a complete and transparent examination of the facts. He has requested that the House Homeland Security Committee convene a congressional hearing on the incident and has called for the immediate release of all available body-worn camera footage and other relevant evidence.
The representative has also encouraged anyone with information relevant to the incident to come forward, stating that the public and family members of Mr. Salgado Araujo have a right to know what happened by way of an independent investigation.
Rep. Green has further emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in law enforcement actions, citing the deaths of Rene Good and Alex Pretti as examples of the importance of independent oversight.
