Guramrit Sidhu, a notorious Brampton drug dealer and kingpin, has been sentenced to 20 years in a federal penitentiary for his role in a massive methamphetamine and cocaine trafficking operation.
Sidhu, also known as the "King," was found guilty of leading a criminal organization that trafficked hundreds of kilograms of illicit substances from the United States into Canada over a five-week period.
The total value of the drugs, worth up to US$17 million, was transported into Canada via long-haul semi-trucks for further distribution, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Sidhu provided phone numbers and serial numbers on bills of currency for couriers to use as identification, facilitating the delivery and transportation of the narcotics.
Between September 13 and October 24, 2022, Sidhu orchestrated the distribution of eight separate drug loads, totaling approximately 523 kilograms of methamphetamine and 347 kilograms of cocaine.
He was arrested in January 2024 and extradited to the U.S. to face charges, becoming the seventh defendant to plead guilty in connection with the operation.
Sidhu's syndicate had deep ties to former Olympian Ryan Wedding, with the group relying on Punjabi truckers and trucking companies to bring the drugs into Canada.
