Jeopardy! has been a staple of US television for decades, captivating audiences with its unique game show format.
The daytime favorite, which has been on the air since 1964, turns the traditional game show model on its head by providing players with the answers and inviting them to guess the questions.
Those who participate stand to win thousands of dollars, with the final Jeopardy round serving as the culmination of the game, where contestants wager their winnings on getting the correct answer.
Recent contestant Adam Remsen's 12-game winning streak came to an end earlier this week after he failed to answer the final Jeopardy question correctly.
Remsen, an attorney and theatre producer from Memphis, Tennessee, was competing against fellow contestants Mandy Moreno, a social psychologist from Brooklyn, and Richard Nguyen, a research attorney from California, for a 13th consecutive victory.
The final Jeopardy question was under the heading of 20th Century Novels and read: "David Ben-Gurion called this 1958 book 'as a piece of propaganda… the greatest thing ever written about Israel.'"
Remsen's incorrect answer, "What is Fiddler on The Roof?", resulted in a loss of $8,001, reducing his total winnings for the game to $12,779.
Nguyen, on the other hand, correctly guessed the answer to be "What is Exodus?", the 1958 novel by author Leon Uris, and took home the win with a final total of $20,801.
Remsen's impressive streak earned him the title of most successful contestant from Tennessee and placed him joint 17th on the list of all-time Jeopardy! champions.
Remsen attributes his success to practicing with a buzzer and revising subjects he knew less about, including opera, 19th century presidents, European monarchs, and rivers.
He notes that getting on Jeopardy! is extremely difficult, and on every question, contestants must assume that at least two of their opponents know the answer, making it a true buzzer contest.
Remsen's 12-game winning streak netted him $306,415, but he still falls short of the current record holder, Jamie Ding, who won 31 games earlier this year and took home $882,605.
Jamie Ding now holds the title of most successful contestant of 2026, surpassing Remsen's impressive earnings.
