David and Victoria Beckham are celebrating 27 years of marriage this year, a remarkable milestone in their enduring relationship.
The couple met in 1997, when Victoria attended a Manchester United game with fellow Spice Girl Mel C. At the time, Victoria was known as Posh Spice, and their chance encounter marked the beginning of a romance that would last a lifetime.
David has fondly recalled the early days of their relationship, revealing that Victoria wrote her number on a train ticket, which he still has. "She came to watch me in a game in London with her manager at the time, and one of the other Spice Girls," he told Jimmy Fallon in 2019. They met in the player's lounge, where they first exchanged numbers.
Victoria has also shared her thoughts on their early days together, writing a letter to herself in Vogue. "While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family," she wrote. "And he has such a cute smile. You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you."
The couple faced challenges in keeping their relationship under wraps, meeting in car parks to avoid detection. "My manager kept saying, 'Try and keep it under wraps,'" Victoria explained. "So, we would meet in car parks and it's not as seedy as it sounds."
David and Victoria got engaged in 1998 and tied the knot on July 4, 1999, at Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland. The fairytale wedding, with a Robin Hood theme, took place in a 14-bedroom property with its own golf course. The couple changed into matching purple outfits to cut the cake, although David has since joked about looking ridiculous in them.
The wedding, which cost around £750,000, featured a Vera Wang gown for Victoria, said to have cost around $100,000, and a striking white suit for David. The couple also wore gold and diamond tiaras and sat on gold thrones during the ceremony.
David and Victoria have four children together, including Brooklyn, who was born just four months before their wedding. Brooklyn has worked as a model and photographer and is an aspiring chef. He married actress Nicola Peltz in a lavish 2022 wedding.
The couple also has three other children, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper Seven. Romeo is a professional footballer, Cruz is a musician, and Harper is a fashionista who often accompanies her parents to events.
The Beckhams have a number of different residences, including a converted barn in the Cotswolds and a penthouse flat in Miami. However, it's reported that they spend most of their time at their townhouse in Holland Park, West London.
In recent years, the family has faced challenges, particularly with Brooklyn, who has become estranged from his family. Brooklyn accused his parents of prioritising 'Brand Beckham' over family and tried to ruin his marriage. Since then, David and Victoria have made several attempts to reconcile with their son.
