An 87-year-old woman with Alzheimer's was saved by her heroic neighbors from a house fire in Leicestershire, England.
Phyllis Day's home was engulfed in flames, but thanks to the quick thinking of her neighbors, Pav Sarpal and Stephan Smart, she was able to be led to safety.
Suzanne, Phyllis's daughter, was alerted to the fire by her doorbell camera, which showed the flames and smoke billowing from the house.
She quickly dressed and watched as her neighbors rushed to save her mother, who was unable to hear the smoke alarms due to her hearing aids being removed before bed.
The fire investigators believe an electrical fault in the kitchen or utility room may have started the blaze.
Phyllis's neighbors, Pav and Stephan, ran into the house to rescue her, despite the intense heat and smoke.
Pav said, "It's the worst thing I've ever seen in my life, all I could see were flames and smoke, and it was getting worse by the second."
Stephan added, "I just saw flames coming straight through the kitchen door. I panicked a little to start with, but I knew somebody was upstairs and I had to get up there and get her down as quickly as possible."
The two men took turns helping Phyllis down the stairs and out of the front door, where she was met by her daughter Suzanne and another neighbor, Dean Archer.
Phyllis will now stay with her daughter until her home is repaired, and Suzanne has expressed her gratitude to her neighbors, saying, "They are absolute super heroes and I think King Charles should knight them all."
However, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has warned that entering a burning building can be extremely dangerous, and can cause smoke inhalation and other injuries.
