In a recent development involving the Smithsonian Institution, a series of hearings shed light on the controversial role of the organization. During a hearing, Mike Gonzalez, a DEI and identity politics expert, highlighted the concerns over a toolkit developed by the Smithsonian called the "Museums as Sites for Social Action" (MASS) training guide.
The MASS Action toolkit is designed to aid in disseminating formal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training.
According to Gonzalez, the Smithsonian staff played a significant role in shaping the toolkit, which also features praise from Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch regarding shifting leaders and professionals away from traditional beliefs of perfection, risk aversion, and conflict avoidance towards action.
During the hearing, Gonzalez questioned if lawmakers present believed that perfection could be considered a characteristic associated with whiteness. He emphasized the need for Congress to fulfill their duty and take control of the Smithsonian from leaders who exploit the institution for dangerous ideological games.
Following the hearing, Fox News Digital reached out to the Smithsonian Institution and the National Museum of American History for comment.
