Keir Starmer's Lasting Impact: 3 Key Moves that Define His

The Hillsborough Law, a landmark legislation championed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has finally passed the House of Commons after months of debate. The bill imposes a 'duty of candour' on public officials, making them liable to prosecution if they lie or evade in a public inquiry.

Starmer, who considers the law a personal mission, has been a driving force behind its passage. The Attorney General, Richard Hermer, hailed the law as a game-changer, stating it will 'radically change the relationship between those who govern and the people they govern, forever.'

The Hillsborough Law is a significant accomplishment for Starmer's government, building on its previous success in scrapping no-fault evictions for renters. This policy change, introduced overnight in May, has provided a major benefit to renters in England, who are no longer bound by fixed-term contracts or liable to eviction at short notice.

Starmer's government has also taken a significant step towards transforming the UK's energy sector with the introduction of small modular nuclear reactors. These power stations, which can be built anywhere in the country, have the potential to reduce the UK's reliance on fossil fuels and serve power-hungry AI datacentres.

As the UK embarks on a new era, with the dawn of the Burnham era on the horizon, it remains to be seen whether these policies will endure. One thing is certain, however, that the legacy of Keir Starmer's government will be shaped by its commitment to transformative change.
