GB News Faces Backlash for Questionable Link Between LGBTQ+ Community and Paedophilia in Pride Parade Discussion

GB News Faces Backlash for Questionable Link Between LGBTQ+ Community and Paedophilia in Pride Parade Discussion

GB News has faced intense backlash from the public and several public figures over its recent broadcasting of remarks that linked LGBTQ+ people to paedophilia.

The contentious comments were made by Catholic journalist Caroline Farrow during a segment discussing Pride that aired on 5 July. The segment, which featured a debate between Farrow and Liberal Democrat councillor Mathew Hulbert, sparked widespread criticism and outrage.

Pride in London 2026 took place on 4 July, with over 35,000 people marching from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. The event's theme, "Many Voices, One Front," highlighted the recent rise in transphobia and anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes.

In the segment, Farrow made several inflammatory comments, stating that the Pride parade featured a "very sexualised display" and that some merchandise available at the event was "aimed at a festival aimed at children." She also claimed that the Pride movement had become about celebrating "every single sexuality that isn't heterosexuality," including "bizarre and unhealthy kinks and quirks" such as furries, bestiality, and minor attraction.

Farrow's comments were met with immediate backlash from the public, with several public figures joining forces to pen an open letter to Ofcom, the UK media regulator. The letter, signed by Green Party leader Zack Polanski, Drag Race UK star Bimini, and clothing and record label He.She.They, accused GB News of broadcasting "dangerous" lies and called on Ofcom to hold the channel accountable.

The letter stated, "LGBTQIA+ people find these things just as abhorrent as anyone else does. Do your job and hold these channels to account. It's so dangerous to allow lies like this to appear as fact when people don't critically think."

The incident has sparked a wider debate about the need for media regulation and the importance of holding channels accountable for promoting hate speech and misinformation.

The backlash against GB News highlights the importance of promoting inclusivity and respect for the LGBTQ+ community.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance in the face of hate speech and the importance of promoting critical thinking and media literacy.
